Promote
Your Site with
Search Engine Marketing
Web site
promotion is what draws an audience to your little corner
of the Internet. Half the battle of Web-based marketing
is simply getting noticed. Once you have a steady stream
of Web site visitors you can actively market your company's
products and services.
I discovered Web-based Marketing at Xavier
University back in the high flying dot com revolution in
early 2000. It is a fascinating subject if you ever have
the inclination to learn about it. I even owned the domain
name web–based–marketing.com
but never developed it into anything while in school.
These days you actually have to have a legitimate
revenue model to make money online with a pure Internet business.
It takes more than a sock puppet and a naive venture capitalist's
willingness to throw money at you. (I'm still willing to
accept VC money if they are handing it out!). The basic ways
of promoting your Web site are Natural Search, Paid Search
(also known as pay per click (ppc)) , Banner Ads and Links
from other sites, email, and press releases (not to mention
Word of Mouth and traditional marketing methods).
Natural Search(sometime called Organic Search)
is the cheapest because it is free. The Search Engines (SE's)
scour the Internet for Web pages which go into their search
database. Using highly secretive formulas (based on keyword
density, link popularity, etc.) the SE's rank your site.
The problem is that these listings aren't really free because
it takes time and expertise to get your pages ranked towards
the top of the listings. This is where we can help with our
experience in keyword analysis, site submissions and page
optimization.
Paid Search is nothing more than an advertisement
tied to a particular keyword phrase. When the user types
in the phrase in the search engine then your ad will be displayed
at the top or alongside the Natural Search results. The more
you bid for a particular keyword, the more impressions (times
the ad will be seen) you will get. The nice thing about paid
search is that you only pay when someone clicks the ad. The
other nice thing about PPC ads is that you have much more
control over the content and timing of the ad. Paid Search
listings also may appear next to relevant content and news
sites and other pertinent content sites on the World Wide
Web.
I often recommend to my clients that they
work on both Paid Search and Natural Search. It may take
a while for you to establish high ranking results through
Natural Search listings. Paid Search allows you to get your
message out quickly with the added flexibility to change
your message. Both Search Marketing methods require
time and expertise for success. Let Web Street USA help.
